Seed Library is Still Open!

Hello Gardeners

The Seed Library is still open!

(I thought it would be nice to open on a positive note, unlike many of your emails lately.)
Seeds are available whenever the White Bear Lake Ramsey County library is open.
But, here’s where I add the part about cancellation of an event due to Covid-19 virus. The seed packaging event on March 31 is cancelled. All library programs and events are cancelled thru March 31, but the library itself is still open so you can get seeds, and books.

I will package up seeds and keep adding to the seed drawers, little by little. Please let me know if a variety of seed is not available.

As for events in April; they are still scheduled.

Here’s something kids and adults can do while social distancing at home:
If you find you have kids or kids at heart needing a break from staying at home and staring at their digital screens, here is a great project that will put a smile on anyone’s face—start some seeds! Marigold and Scarlet Runner Bean seeds are quick to germinate, so you get almost instant gratification. Just watching a tiny seed send up a shoot is so satisfying. It reaffirms my trust in nature. How can such a tiny little seed have so much inside it to create plants and trees? Such a wonder to me.

Go for a walk outside every day. Soak up some sun. Really look at trees and your gardens. Maybe you’ll see a bud fattening on a branch or a small shoot coming from the ground.  Maybe you’ll see some birds returning from southern roosts. Bald Eagle Lake has geese, swans and ducks in open areas now. Look for insects crawling or flying around. Breathe in the fresh air. Nature is a wonderful tonic.
